This posting will teach you how to do a SBE.
For women, the best time to do a SBE is about a week after your period. The breast tissue becomes tender and swollen during our periods due to our hormones. About one week after starting, the breasts are much less tender.
There are 2 methods, circular or up and down motion. While in the shower or standing, raise your left arm, and start at the nipple and go around in circular motion going outward. Then press upward from the nipple up to collar bone. You also want to press under your arm as well. Around the collar bone and under the arm, we have lymph nodes that can become enlarged too. You, then want to switch and raise your right arm and repeat in the same manner. Remember, you are looking or feeling for anything that feels different.
What you are feeling for is anything different.......any lumps, bumps, dimples, anything that has never been there before or is non-tender and mobile. You also want to squeeze the nipple and make sure there isn't any fluid, green, or brown or black coming out. Some women may have clear fluid that can be expressed especially if they have nursed or had a child recently.
